Took a bit to get into [ had to read the first 20 pages again ] but haven't been able to
put it down.
Written as letters to various people.
Takes place just after the second world war.
Synopsis:
33 year old author, writing to people on the Guernsey island [ 33 miles off the
coast of France but is English territory.]
who had set up the above society. She is interested in writing a book, but becomes involved
with their lives.
Their experiences during the war .....Guerney was occupied by the Germans for 5 years.
Hundreds and hundreds of children were evacuated 2 days before they arrived.
The many hardships the people endured.
All food was sent to Germany to feed their troops, even the Germans on the Island were starving.
Trees cut down....freezing conditions.
The heroics of the people.
Although fiction, many of the scenarios would be true to life. A lovely read.
They will make a movie of it one day.
I do recommend it!
